Wokingham – Best Place to Live

A survey by Halifax puts Wokingham as the number one place to live in Britain. The given reasons include, the small, Berkshire town, has the healthiest people, 95% of whom are in good or fairly good health and anyone being born in Wokingham today has a ten year longer life expectancy than those being born today in Glasgow.



Residents are in the top 5% of wage earners, have houses with more bedrooms and gain more GCSEs. The town has one and a half hours more sunshine a week than the national average and also has a lower crime rate and apparently has 84% of owner-occupiers.

The town centre is made up of four streets and as a historic market town has a Friday market. This is a rather low-key affair with only a few stalls. There are no department stores and few clothes shops.

Wokingham does not seem to have masses of fancy cars; in fact they tend to be Fiestas! People agree that the town is very nice but not necessarily the best in Britain as some consider it to be rather boring.

The survey put the top ten places to live in Britain all around London most of which are too expensive for the ordinary person. This perhaps is the reason for the high rate of owner-occupiers and GCSE results.

The Channel 4 programme, Location, Location, Location, put Wokingham in the top twenty places in Britain to live.
