The project was delivered in phases over the last year to ensure minimum disruption for park visitors. The worked kicked-off with the expansion of the car park, creating 80 new spaces in the process. In line with the council’s climate emergency agenda, two electric car-charge points were installed, along with l cycle parking.

The next phase saw outdoor pergolas installed next to Jackson’s Café to provide an all-weather sun shade or rain cover. Pathways leading from the new car park were also created. In the autumn the team undertook road resurfacing work, ensuring better vehicle access for guests.

“We’re thrilled to have undertaken and delivered several much-needed improvements at California Country Park. We want to ensure that our Borough residents experience the best of our facilities. As such, it was vital that we invested in this much loved park.” said Cllr Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure.

Second Phase

A second phase of work will begin at the country park later in 2020, which includes a new play park and planned upgrades to toilet facilities.

The bridge is due to open for public use in the spring. Further works are also planned at Nine Mile Ride which will complete the final part of the California Way.
