Cantley Park Changes – Drop In Sessions

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

Come and find out more about Wokingham Borough Council’s plans to enhance Cantley Park in Wokingham at one of its drop-in sessions taking place later this month (January).

Back in December, Wokingham Borough Council’s decision-making executive agreed to invest more than £1.6million to transform the park’s facilities. Included in the proposals are a state-of-the-art 3G pitch (subject to planning approval and Football Foundation grant), upgraded pavilion with café facilities, and an artificial cricket wicket.  Improvements would also be made to the current grass pitches.

Cllr Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure, said:  “This enhancement project will bring significant benefit to the park’s large number of resident users, including those who use the park for sport such as the football community, as well as individuals and families. This is another huge investment in leisure and sporting facilities in Wokingham Borough that will help our climate change initiatives by reducing travel as residents will no longer have to play football outside of the borough.”

Cantley Park Changes – Plans

Anyone wishing to view the council’s proposals and discuss its plans with council officers can drop into the Ashridge Room at Cantley Park to find out more on:

•          Monday 20 January between 9am and 2pm

•          Thursday 23 January between 4pm to 9pm

•          Saturday 25 January between 8am and 4pm

You will also be able to give your views on the proposals for Cantley Park on the council’s website:  www.wokingham.gov.uk (and search for ‘current consultations’) from Monday 20 January and complete a short survey.

Cllr Batth continued:  “I would encourage you to drop-in to one of our sessions to find out more about our proposals at Cantley Park.  We plan to submit a planning application for the 3G pitch in March 2020.

“If we’re successful in securing planning permission, work would start, subject to funding approval from the Football Foundation, in the summer.  This would be great news for local teams, who would no longer have to travel outside the borough for matches or training.”
