Exciting and inclusive new play area coming to Cantley Park

Following closely on from the fantastic play area recently opened at California Country Park, work will soon begin on another great new place to play at Cantley Park in Wokingham.

Work Starting Next Month

The new £450,000 play area will replace the existing equipment which is located close to the tennis courts and will complement the existing sport and leisure facilities at Cantley. Work is due to start on site next month and it is currently expected that the new play area will be ready to open later in October. It is being funded by ‘developer contributions’ – money paid by housing developers to improve local communities.

The play area has been designed to appeal to a wide age range – including teenagers as well as younger children and will be inclusive with wheelchair accessible equipment. A special feature at the new Cantley Park play area will be Yalp interactive equipment which is designed to make playing outside as addictive as gaming – but without the screen time.

Wokingham Borough Council executive member for environment, Cllr Parry Batth said: “It is so important that all children and young people are attracted to play outside and be active – and that is why we have opted for a design that will allow and encourage as many of our local youngsters as possible to enjoy the park.

“Cantley Park is already one of our premier leisure attractions – a place where people go to exercise, play sport, relax, enjoy a meal or a night at the theatre – so it is the perfect place for another great destination play area for the borough.”

Cantley Park is well-served for those wanting to walk or cycle to the new park and these routes are being enhanced by the Greenway (Route B) that will join the park to Arborfield Cross via Woosehill once complete (the section through the park was opened earlier this year).
