Council Elections

With local elections taking place on May 3 this year, potential candidates are being invited to come along to an information evening on March 5 to learn more about standing for election.

At the event, potential candidates will find out what is required to stand and how to do so. Nomination papers will be available at the meeting, but  can also be collected from electoral services from March 5.

If you are interested in coming along to the event, call the team on (0118) 974 6647 to book your place.

“Many people may be put off standing for election thinking it is too difficult without the support of a political party to guide them through the process,” said Melanie Dark-Gale, electoral services senior specialist.

“However, becoming a candidate isn’t complicated. You just need to satisfy certain eligible criteria, and have the signatures of at least ten people from the ward in which you wish to stand.

“You can get more information about this, and the wards that are up for election by going to the Wokingham Borough Council’s website (search for ‘candidates’), or give the team a call.”

Completed nomination papers must be received by 4pm on April 6.
