Dabbawalla, A New Indian Kitchen, Is Opening In Wokingham
Dabbawalla, a new Indian kitchen, is opening its doors on January 14. Located within the heart of Wokingham, in Peach Place, Dabbawalla offers an Indian dining and take-away experience unlike any other. Inspired by the lively Indian street food scene, it is the first of its kind; serving brunch, lunch and afternoon tea, as well as its unique dinner menu.
Initially the restaurant will only open for takeaway, ensuring all COVID-19 safety measures are in place to protect employees and customers, but once restrictions allow, people will be able to enjoy the full Dabbawalla experience.
Spread over two floors, the restaurant will offer a comfortable and stylish café setting along with cocktail bar and state of the art theatre-style open kitchen complete with an authentic tandoor oven. Dabbawalla’s modern and exciting approach to traditional Indian cuisine is a must see.
Sustainability is at the heart of Dabbawalla. The restaurant cares about the environment and has created bespoke tiffin boxes for takeaway/collection. Paying homage to the ‘Dabbawallas’ of Mumbai, the ‘Dabbas’ can be bought on the first visit, and then returned and replaced thereafter at no additional cost.
Cllr Charlotte Haitham Taylor, executive member for regeneration, said: “We may feel that we all know Indian food but the more we talked with the Dabbawalla founders the more we realised that this is going to be something completely different and very exciting.
“Their passion for modern food that draws upon heritage dishes, along with their vision for this vibrant new restaurant is inspiring. With its funky modern design, Dabbawalla is going to fit right into Peach Place and be a real asset for the town. Dabbawalla will undoubtedly be a big hit and I am already looking forward to going there to pick up something new to try in their tiffin boxes.
