California Country Park Next Phase

The next phase of improvement works at California Country Park in Finchampstead is due to start at the end of October following the appointment of PT Contracting Ltd who will carry out this work on behalf of Wokingham Borough Council.

The next phase of works will include an improved car parking layout, a series of pergolas that will provide an all-weather outdoor covered café seating area and a new road for better vehicle access. The park, including the café, will remain open during the construction phase, which is expected to be completed by early summer.

Parking

To allow this work to take place, the borough council will be relocating the car park temporarily. Clear signage will be in place so visitors can easily see where they should park when they visit California Country Park.

Last year, work began to safely relocate reptiles and glow worms to a new home within the park. Ecologists were consulted to ensure that all of the animals affected were safe and well. Once the project is completed, the site will see an increase in wildlife biodiversity.

Cllr Norman Jorgensen, executive member for environment, sports, environmental health, leisure and libraries, said: “These improvement are the next phase in making California Country Park an even better place to visit. I am pleased we’re investing in a much loved and well valued local facility.  The country park remains open throughout the work, and the team will be working hard to minimise disruption. I hope that local people will continue to visit during the coming months, there is so much on offer at the park.”
