South Wokingham Housing Development – Public Consultation

Residents are being invited to commenton planning applications submitted for a major housing development proposed inSouth Wokingham.

South Wokingham Housing

The applications are for about 1,700homes to the south of the railway line and include a new primary school,community facilities, parks and play areas. The plans will also show proposedflood mitigation and set out how the developers plan to deal with transportissues.

 “This major development is part of thelong-term, agreed strategic plans for providing the housing we need here in theborough and we want to ensure the details in the applications are right. We arewriting directly to residents in the area to make sure they are aware of theproposal and have the opportunity to provide their comments. They will also beable to see the proposals at the community forum next week,” said Cllr WayneSmith, executive member for planning and enforcement at Wokingham BoroughCouncil.

Community Drop In

The council is also holding a communitydrop-in forum on Thursday 20 June from 7 to 9pm at St Crispin’s School, givingresidents the opportunity to view the plans and discuss them with theapplicants.

South Wokingham Housing

A separate planning application is dueto be submitted this summer for the next phase of the South WokinghamDistributor Road (SWDR) – the middle section of the road.  Phase one of the SWDR, William Heelas Way, is complete and runs through theMontague Park housing development.  Phasetwo, the eastern gateway, which already has planning consent, will connectMontague Park to Waterloo Road, with construction due to start later this year. Oncefinished the road will provide access to the 2,500 new homes in the SouthWokingham area as well as relieve some of the town centre pressure.
