Wokingham Bins – New Waste and Recycling Strategy

Wokingham Borough Council aims to reduce the cost of waste disposal and improve the overall recycling rate across the Borough, following the approval of the new re3 waste strategy by the Executive on Thursday 27 September.
The new re3 waste strategy contains the specific performance targets for the Borough as well as the agreed consensus within the re3 Partnership in support of strategic development. It will run until 2020.
Recycling Rate
As part of the strategy, Wokingham Borough Council is aiming to obtain an overall 52% recycling rate. It’s hoped that the Council will be able to achieve this rate through the introduction of food waste kerbside collections from 1 April 2019 and by increased recycling of plastics and glass.
Cllr Norman Jorgensen, executive member for environment, sports, environmental health, leisure and libraries said, “The work of re3 is invaluable in helping us to achieve greater efficiency and in our aim of achieving an overall recycling rate of over 50%.
“As we are becoming more conscious of the impact of plastic waste on our environment, I am also pleased that the re3 strategy commits Wokingham Borough Council to the WRAP campaign on plastics.”

Wokingham Borough entered into the partnership with Bracknell Forest and Reading Borough Council back in 2006 to form re3, which will run waste disposal services for the three councils until 2031.
