WOKINGHAM BOROUGH LIBRARIAN WINS NATIONAL AWARD

Wokingham Librarian – Wokingham Borough Council’s, reader development officer for young people and families, Elizabeth McDonald has won the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) Public Librarian of the Year Award.
The CILIP’s annual awards recognise the outstanding contribution staff make to their customers, the communities they serve, and the wider public library profession.
Elizabeth won because of her inter-departmental collaborations with the Community Development Team and Berkshire Adolescent Unit which helped to push the reach of her activities into much needed areas, as well as her success empowering young people, providing volunteer opportunities, digital skills and recognition awards.
She said: “I was thrilled to receive this award in recognition for the work that I do within Wokingham Borough libraries. There are so many outstanding, vibrant, enthusiastic and downright heroic library colleagues that I work with locally and nationally, so it is a real privilege to be honoured in this way.
“ I enjoy interacting with partners and communities within the borough to encourage a love of reading and the importance of libraries.”
Cllr Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for resident services, said: “Elizabeth works tirelessly for the Wokingham Borough library service and I’m delighted to hear that she has been recognised for her efforts by being awarded the Public Librarian of the Year Award.
“We are continuing to support our library service by increasing opening hours, offering new and innovative self-serve options and actively engaging with hard-to-reach groups to ensure that Wokingham Borough residents, young and old, have the best library facilities.”
