Wokingham Christmas Bin Collection Details
FESTIVE WASTE AND RECYCLING COLLECTIONS INFORMATION
With Christmas just around the corner, Wokingham Borough Council is reminding residents there will be changes to waste and recycling collections during the festive period. Keep an eye out for the winter edition of Wokingham Borough News, which will be out for delivery week commencing 16 December and will have more information on when our teams will be out.
Residents will experience up to a three-day delay on their collection prior to normal service resuming on 13 January. Please be aware rounds will be starting earlier during the festive period.
Collection Dates
Christmas time is a prime opportunity for people to make the most of the council’s recycling services and minimise the amount being thrown away.
Wokingham Christmas Bin Collection Tips
• Make the most of the food recycling service by putting your turkey bones, potato peelings and any leftovers into your caddy
• Use paper-based wrapping paper, rather than plastic or metallic-based wrapping paper, as this can go into the black recycling boxes (scrunch it, and if it stays scrunched, it can be recycled)
• Buy loose fruit and vegetables
• Write your shopping list and stick to it
• Use your leftovers from Christmas lunch for meals in the following days
• Recycle your plastic bottles, paper/card, aerosols and food/drink tins
• Break down cardboard boxes to save space and ensure they fit into the recycling box (and keep it dry to make sure it can be recycled!)
• Old, unwanted electrical items can be recycled at re3 recycling centres
• Chop up your real Christmas tree, put it into your garden waste bin or take it to our household recycling centres
Recycling Centres
Longshot Lane, Bracknell, and Smallmead, Reading, recycling centres will be open for most of the Christmas period, with the only changes being closure on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, as well as shutting early at 4pm, rather than 8pm, on Christmas Eve.
“This is the first year where residents will be able to utilise our food waste recycling service at Christmas, which we hope will help minimise the amount of waste going to landfill this festive period,” said Sarah Hollamby, director for localities and customer service. “Hopefully some of these easy tips will help our residents recycle as much as they can this year and make sure these habits stick in the New Year.”
