Wokingham Community Litter Pick
Wokingham Borough Council is inviting all residents to come along and take part in the annual community litter pick on Saturday April 1 and Sunday April 2.
Litter picks will take place in Arborfield, Barkham, Charvil, Crazies Hill, Earley, Emmbrook, Evendons, Finchampstead, Hurst, Norreys and Wescott, Remenham, Shinfield, Swallowfield, Twyford, Wargrave, Winnersh, Wokingham Town, Wokingham Without and Woodley. The event – organised by Wokingham Borough Council alongside neighbourhood action groups, town and parish councils, residents’ and environmental groups – aims to make the borough a cleaner and brighter place to live and create a sense of community pride as well as raise awareness that litter is unacceptable.
Rubbish
Last year, more than 800 bags of rubbish from parks, beauty spots, community areas and village centres were collected. The rubbish varied from the usual drink cans, crisp packets and car tyres to the more unusual including Rolls Royce hub caps, medals – which were eventually returned to their owner, a camera, golf clubs, a trophy and jewellery boxes.

Cllr Angus Ross, executive member for environment, said: “The Wokingham Borough is a beautiful place but is too often spoilt by indiscriminate litter. This litter pick is a great chance for residents to make the borough a cleaner and brighter place to live and give the community a sense of civic pride as well as raise awareness that litter is unacceptable. Please join me if you can, as the Wokingham Borough will be a better, cleaner and nicer place with your involvement.”
