To celebrate 30 years’ of the children’s classic, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, Wokingham Borough Council’s Engagement Team, is hosting his birthday parade, on Monday 16 September, between 10am and noon, in the grounds of St Eligius Community Church in Arborfield.
Wokingham Borough Library staff will be on hand to entertain kids with stories, stomping rhymes and craft workshops. There will also be a range of light refreshments on offer for guests to enjoy.
“I’m sure many parents will fondly remember snuggling-up to read Elmer as a child and now share in that same enjoyment when reading this classic book to their own children. The stories message is as important now as it was on its release in 1989,” said, Cllr Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure.
“Elmer is a celebration of people’s differences and instils into young children the importance of being ourselves. We look forward to celebrating the books important message with our residents and hope they can join our library staff for the fun and festivities.”
