Wokingham Festival 2021 Returns This Weekend
Wokingham Festival returns to Cantley Park this coming weekend (28 to 30 August) and you have until 10pm on Thursday (26 August) to get your advanced tickets.
This popular annual event is supported this year by Wokingham Borough Council and more than 40 artists from across the borough and from further afield will take to the stage. There are original artists and tribute artists covering a wide range of musical genres.
Artists
Artists confirmed include Wille and the Bandits, Unikque, The Skangsters, Flutatious, The Room, Bruce Juice, Fred’s House, Zeppelin Kids, The Paradox Twin, Kyros and much more on the festivals two music stages, the main TradeMark Stage and the Wokingham Music Club Stage.
Something new for this year’s festival is the open air theatre on Sunday (29 August) where The Macbeths, with its production of Shakespeare’s famous play, will be entertaining the crowds. The story is told in five acts starting at 1pm, with further acts at regular intervals during the afternoon, with the final act at 6.15pm. Yoga classes will also take place throughout the festival weekend.
Refreshments will be available across three bars from the local area. The Beer Festival Bar, run by the Twyford Beer Festival team, will stock a wide selection of specialist craft beers, ciders and perries from local and national breweries; The Redan Cocktail Bar will serve cocktails, prosecco and lagers; and the Wokingham Music Club Bar will be stationed inside one of the performance tents, for those that don’t want to step away from the action.
Cllr Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure, said: “I’m delighted this popular festival is taking place at Cantley Park and we’re supporting such an important community event. This year’s festival promises something for everyone. Please protect yourself and others by taking a lateral flow test before arriving at the festival and only attend if you are in good health. You can easily get a test or collect a home testing kit from one of our local centres.”
Stan Hetherington, who runs the festival as well as the Wokingham Music Club, said: “The festival is run by a team of enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers from the local area and we all share a passion for quality live music in a friendly, enjoyable atmosphere. This isn’t Reading Festival; we can’t do what they do. We only charge low prices for tickets but we deliver stages much bigger than we should be able to because of our volunteers and the community spirit which is also helped by the great support from Wokingham Borough Council.”
Wokingham Borough Council’s fostering team will also be dropping along to the festival on Sunday 29 August from 3pm to 5pm. Keep an eye out for them with their bright orange ‘Ask me about fostering’ t-shirts and pop over for a chat about how you could foster with the council and make a difference to the children coming into its care.
Car Parking
Car parking is limited at the festival however it is less than a mile away from Wokingham town centre and train station where car parks, a bus service and taxis will be available. If you do travel by car, please park considerately in neighbouring residential areas. Matthewsgreen Road is currently being resurfaced so please also respect the temporary no parking cones.
