Wokingham GCSE Results
Wokingham GCSE – 77.5% of pupils at Wokingham Borough schools have secured a grade 4 or above (roughly a C and above under the old measure) in English and Maths – significantly higher than the national average of 66.3% (66.9% last year).
This is a tremendous achievement for students in Wokingham Borough schools, as both English and Maths are new tougher exams, meaning our students have bucked the national trend. The percentage of Wokingham students achieving a grade 4 or above in English is 86% this year, against a national figure of 72% (74.5% last year), and 82% in Maths against a 68.9% nationally (61.5% in 2016).
This year marks a distinct change in how Year 11 students are assessed in their GCSE’s. English and Maths grades have moved from the previous A to G grades to 9 to1. The new grade 4 roughly equates to a standard pass in the old C. Grade 5 is a strong C, and 6 a B. Grades 7, 8 and 9 relate to A and A*. The exams in English and Maths have also become more rigorous, and controlled assessments are no longer part of English.
Subjects
The rest of the GCSE subjects are due to switch to tougher curricula, and this new marking scheme, in phases during the next few years.
