Wokingham Half Marathon 2021 – Going Ahead
Runners from across the Wokingham Borough and further afield are gearing up for the biggest local sporting event of the year. Following a period of uncertainty, the coveted Wokingham Half Marathon is scheduled to run in full force.
The 13.1 mile race, which has been an annual sell-out since 1984, takes place on Sunday 19 September. Starting and finishing at Cantley Park, the course is fully closed to traffic and runs on flat rural roads. From massages, shower facilities, kit tents and a race village with catering, the event is approved by the United Kingdom Athletics.
Introduced in 2020, Wokingham Mini Mile promises to be the highlight of the marathon. The route is set to get the whole family involved and offers t-shirts and medals all young participants.
Planning is well underway to ensure that all stringent Covid-19 safety rules are observed, with a 100% refund guarantee in case of a cancellation.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to confirm the good news – Wokingham Half Marathon is set to return to the streets of our borough later this year,” said Graham Ebers, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Resources and Assets, at Wokingham Borough Council. “With the ongoing pandemic and restrictions on live events, it’s been a tough year for so many of our residents. I’d like to take this opportunity to invite all runners to the race, our route is equally as suitable to established runners, as it is for those looking to complete their first official half-marathon. I’m hoping for fantastic weather on the day and plenty of cheerful atmosphere throughout. ”
Fancy Dress To Impress
When running, it’s important to get your wardrobe choice right. Runners are encouraged to put on a fancy dress, support a great cause or donate to one of the charities suggested by the organizers.
