Wokingham Job Fair 26th September
Wokingham Borough residents will be able to meet prospective employers from a variety of sectors and receive career support, all under one roof, at a free job fair on Tuesday 26 September.
The event, jointly organised by Wokingham Borough Council and the Department for Work and Pensions, will take place from 10am to 2pm, at Wokingham Town Hall. Anyone wishing to attend can just turn up on the day – no advance booking is needed.
Residents can browse roles in construction, transport, health, care and public administration sectors and some apprenticeships or training programmes will also be offered. Most of the jobs are with local companies and organisations, and do not require extensive travel.
Several employment support organisations will be providing tailored career advice or referring residents to the best places for job-related information. Resource Productions, a social enterprise that champions diversity in film and televisions, will take part to shed light on these fast-growing industries.
As a local employer, the council will be discussing and answering questions from residents about apprenticeships and opportunities in the area.
It currently has more than 70 apprentices on varied programmes including business administration, teaching, customer service, social care and management. The council’s adult education team will be there to help residents apply for local training courses to brush up their skills.
Cllr Clive Jones, executive member for business and economic development, said: “We’d like to thank all employers and partners who are supporting and taking part in this job fair.
“Together, we are delighted to be presenting a wide range of employment and training opportunities to our residents free of charge. Although the UK’s economy is being hit by inflation and the rising cost of living, there are still lots of roles out there and we want to help people make the most of them.
“We hope this event will help residents explore new possibilities and learn about the support that’s available to make them more confident in the workplace. We strongly urge everyone to come along, no matter whether they’re looking for a new job or seeking advice on starting a career, returning to work, or training and upskilling.”
