Wokingham Library Teen Creative Writing Club Resumes Face to Face Sessions
Many writers first get into storytelling during their teen years, but with writing seen as a solitary activity and the pandemic limiting opportunities still further it’s not easy for young writers to share their stories and ideas with others. That’s why Igniting Writing, Wokingham Library’s creative writing club for 11-18 year olds, has returned to running face to face sessions and is open to new members.
Igniting Writing was set up in 2014 and has worked with hundreds of teens across Berkshire to help them develop their writing skills and make friends with likeminded young writers in a fun, relaxed group setting. Having pivoted to solely online sessions due to the pandemic, Igniting Writing has recently resumed running its sessions face to face once more. The sessions are free to attend and focus on a different writing topic each week, from building settings and creating characters to exploring sci-fi and fantasy worlds, so there’s something for everyone.
Face to face sessions are held at Wokingham Library every Saturday (excluding the second Saturday of each month and school holidays). The sessions for Year 6-8 pupils run from 9:45am to 11:15am, whilst the sessions for Year 9-13 pupils run from 11:45am to 1:15pm.
Igniting Writing also holds online ‘Write with an Author’ sessions on the second Saturday of each month, 10:30am to 12:00pm. Sessions feature a Q&A with published authors, useful writing tips and fun writing activities.
Places are limited, so attendance for the face to face or ‘Write with an Author’ sessions must be booked in advance. Anyone interested in registering can email firstname.lastname@example.org
