Wokingham Litter Pick -The annual borough-wide litter pick took place earlier this month (April 1 and 2) and saw over 900 volunteers taking part and clearing rubbish across the Wokingham Borough.
Around 10 tonnes of rubbish was collected with the recyclable material such as cardboard, paper and cans sent to a recycling centre. Other rubbish included a stolen purse, an intravenous drip, mini-motorbike, handcuffs, a satellite dish, furniture and numerous car parts.
The annual litter pick is organised by Wokingham Borough Council in partnership with town and parish councils as well as neighbourhood, environmental and resident groups with the aim of making the borough a cleaner place to live and to give the community a sense of civic pride, as well as raising awareness that litter is unacceptable.

Wokingham Borough Council’s executive member for environment Cllr Angus Ross said: “Every year I am delighted so many groups and individuals come out to clear up the borough during our community litter pick weekend.
“I’d like to thank the organisers and volunteers and especially the cubs and brownies who all made such a difference. Whilst still being frustrated that a few residents indiscriminately throw away their litter rather than taking it home, I do applaud the many who respect our environment and those who go the extra mile to volunteer for our Adopt-a-Street initiatives and those who take part in the annual litter pick.”
Residents Help
Residents can help throughout the year to keep their neighbourhoods green and litter free by joining the adopt-a-street scheme. The council will provide residents with a litter picker and bags which can be left out for collection with their normal weekly household rubbish.
