Wokingham Platinum Jubilee Events Made Easy By Council

Wokingham Borough Council has set up an easy way for people to apply for a road closure so they can hold a street party to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this summer – and closures agreed will be free of charge.

Residents and community groups normally have to pay to cover the cost of road closures (for the signs, diversion routes and admin needed) but the council is dropping this fee for the jubilee weekend of 2 to 5 June. Applications can be made via the simple form on the council’s website. Applications must still be made because major roads, bus routes and those that need to stay open for emergency services cannot be closed.

Leader of the council John Halsall said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to organise celebrations if they want to. The Platinum Jubilee is a historic occasion and one that could bring communities together, so we don’t want bureaucracy or off-putting road closure costs to get in people’s way.”

Applications for these closures must be made by 15 May.
