Wokingham Roadworks This Summer
Wokingham Roadworks
Wokingham Borough Council is working hard once again to fulfil the wishes of its residents by scheduling in a number of major roadworks, as well as works in the vicinity of local schools, all within the school holidays. The council has confirmed that there are a number of projects that have been scheduled in for the upcoming summer holidays in the hope that this will cause less disruption than during term time.
Wokingham Borough Council is responsible for 967 miles of roads and footpaths, keeping them maintained to a high standard to help keep the borough moving and all residents safe. These maintenance works, together with essential utilities works and works associated with the Wokingham town centre development, have seen an increase in the demand for road space resulting in local increase in residents requesting that works take place in the school holidays.
Highways
Cllr Anthony Pollock, executive member for transport and highways said, “As always, this summer we have prioritised and scheduled in works that need to be carried out in close proximately to school and also main roads that carry the most number of commuters. We understand that any works that affect your journey times at any time can be frustrating but we hope that carrying out the works we have scheduled over the summer holidays will be of benefit in the long term. We also appreciate that carrying out works within school holidays may cause less disruption but unfortunately it is impossible to accommodate all works within the 13 weeks of the year when schools are closed”.
