Wokingham Borough Council aims to minimise disruption to residents by scheduling many major projects to take place during the school holidays.

The council has arranged for the work most likely to cause delays on the road network, which covers approximately 1,000 miles, to take place in late July and August when fewer drivers are making journeys.
Keeping the road system maintained to a high standard helps keep the borough moving as well making sure road users and residents are safe all year round.

Six Weeks

Major works taking place during the next six weeks include parts of the £124million major roads investment programme, as well as utility work by South East Water and Gigaclear on Nine Mile Ride. Structural maintenance of Emmbrook Bridge is also a key project.

These works will cause pressure on the surrounding road network, often resulting in residents requesting that works take place outside of the peak traffic periods and during quieter times like the school holidays.

“As always we want to keep disruption to our road network at a minimum when carrying out any roadworks,” said Cllr Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for transport and highways. “We prioritise work for the school holidays in areas which carry the most commuters or are in close proximity to schools.

“We know all of our journey times are affected by these works and they can cause frustration, but we hope that by undertaking some of the works in the quietest period of the year this will reduce the overall impact. Carrying these out during the holidays causes less disruption but sadly it is impossible to accommodate all the work in the weeks where schools are closed.”
